From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil. Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart. Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Ever since I finished Throne of Glass, I knew I just had to get caught up with this series. Crown of Midnight has to be my favorite out of the three books I have read in this series. (Currently reading Heir of Fire [Update: Heir of Fire has been finished, finally]) Really enjoy reading all these different twists and turns in the plot and how Sarah just throws the plot in an entire different direction than what direction I expected it to go. What I really love about this book though is not only the plot but the characters and how they all seemed a bit different now that the competition was over. Crown of Midnight though was such a fun, well written, and surprising novel that left me shocked after some chapters and giggling like an idiot after the next.

Crown of Midnight is the sequel to Throne of Glass. It picks up a few months after the ending of Throne of Glass and Celaena is doing her thing. What she is doing, I cannot tell you because that would be a spoiler to the previous book, but she is doing her thing in the most hilarious and sassy way.

I think in this book not only did Sarah write more of the Celaena we saw in Throne of Glass, but introduced the side of Celaena that liked to have fun and that really opened a new side to Celaena as a character to us as readers. In Throne of Glass, she is just an arrogant, sassy, and hilarious assassin. I was able to add protective and can surprisingly easily get attached to that list. Being able to still develop a character throughout multiple books is a very important aspect of a series I recognize because it basically prevents the readers from getting bored! It was also so nice to read more about Dorian and Chaol. I loved how they both became such friends to Celaena and reading about these kind of friendships are nice because this is such an emotional and serious series, having a little fun and humor lightens up the mood of the book, even if it’s just for a second!

The events that went down in Crown of Midnight probably makes it my favorite book out of this series…so far! I really enjoyed how Sarah brings in more information about magic and all this crazy awesome stuff! That really made me more interested in the book because of how suspenseful the book would get at some points. The action scenes that went on throughout the book were so well written. It captured just how dangerous and powerful Celaena could be when she was fighting and they were all so exciting to read about as well!

What I enjoyed the most about this book was the ending. Not only the ending battle, but how the ending really sets up the next book and leaves you wanting so much more! It definitely closed a chapter in this series and gets ready for a new one to be opened.

I gave this book 5 stars! Loved everything about it and really enjoying this series so far.
First of all, I am so sad to know that Chaolaena probably won’t work out in the future. I mean, even if Celaena was not herself the night Nehemia died, things between Chaol and Celaena will never be the same. Bummer too because I really loved these two together. Loved how they comforted each other and they were just soooooo cute. They shall (better) remain very good friends.

Just a thought: Celaena in her angry mood is not a very pretty picture…Chaol’s face will have a permanent reminder of that, haha. (oh but he is still hot)

Speaking of Nehemia, her death was so sad. I feel so bad for Celaena and the fact that Nehemia died while she and Celaena were on very bad terms. Her death really does play a huge role in the story so I guess it just had to happen? When Celaena went to kick the assassin’s ass, I felt so bad for him because I knew she would not hold back in torturing him.
